#12 (WEEK 5) Smartboards

In March, 2007 the NSW Premier announced the Connected Classrooms Program, a $158 million investment over 4 years to install video conferencing and interactive whiteboard learning capabilities across the State.

Those facilities are currently being installed, and students are arriving at TAFE who have used them. You can learn a lot from these students, but there are some interesting sites online too.

Discovery Exercises:
  1. Try your hand at this cloze test on interactive whiteboards How did your score look (mine was a fairly ordinary 22)
  2. To get an idea about how one might be used, watch this 10 minute video on TeacherTube (for the teminally curious, TeacherTube has many more lessons) .
  3. Locate a smartboard on your campus and use it to try out one or two of these tutorials.
  4. Create a post in your blog about your experience. Can you see a potential use for this tool? What problems can you anticipate?

Curriculum Connection:
  1. IDEA #1: Create an interactive whiteboard resource that your whole faculty might use - target a performance criteria in one of the core modules.
  2. IDEA #2: Have your students create and present a resource.
